Welcome to Redbird Arena where No. 5-ranked and undefeated Wichita State has rolled into town to play Illinois State. The student section behind the basket is full an hour before tipoff. Great to see. Hopefully the townies come out and see a team capable of winning the NCAA title and a team on the rise. I'll try to answer all your questions. ISU is wearing their red uniforms as part of "Red Out Wichita" night. Not a fan of home team wearing their road unis, but for one night why not?
I am saying a little over 8K. Hopefully I am wrong. The upper bowl end zones have people pretty high which is a good sign ... as for the other, I didn't hear any yelling in the hallways when I came out to press row. Hahaha. Sure everyone has been told by Principal Doug Elgin to be on their best behavior.
I was just talking about this with Mike Matthews, radio geek. He thinks they need to hit at least 13 3s. I think ISU needs to shoot between 45 and 50 percent overall from the field. It can't be all perimeter shots. Reggie and JJ must be able to convert near the rim. Easier said than done vs. Shocks. ISU defense was decent two weeks ago in Wichita. If it is the same and offense can shoot decent percentage, have a chance.
Is Houston out there tonight? Houston?
One of our regular contributors, Buckeye Girl, stopped by a little bit ago and wanted to show me her poster for tonight: A picture of Reggie Lynch with the words "Fear The Fro." Way to go, Buckeye Girl! And sorry about your Buckeyes losing four straight. At least they get the Illini tomorrow night.
That is a key, Joe. Reggie and JJ pick up two fouls each during pregame or so it seems. That's why losing Middlebrooks really hurt, although they wouldn't have played a four-guard lineup and 2-3 zone which have really sparked the revival. Once Reggie learns how not to foul as much, watch out.
Show time. Will do again at 4:30 Sat before Indy State. Enjoy game.
