Big night at Redbird Arena. It is Senior Night and lot at stake for Illinois State and Missouri State. I had heard about it, but just saw the new Bryant Allen with dreadlocks gone and wearing a red headband. His first real haircut in 13 years. Also, Kaza Keane has taken off his Mohawk. Maybe less hair will get Redbirds back on track. Senior ceremony at 6:45 and honoring President Al Bowman at halftime. Lots to talk about. Fire away...
This Missouri State team is going to be a force in the Valley in the next year or two. They have a 6-11 high school kid coming in from Fayetteville, Ark., and he could immediately start. They have some good looking freshmen, led by Marcus Marshall. Marshall is playing PG out of necessity (sounds familiar, huh?), but is really a 2 guard. He is probably going to be MVC Frosh of Year. But this is a team that a veteran ISU club should handle.
I would say Indiana State. I heard Manny Arop is not playing tonight, violation of team rules. I commend Greg Lansing for the coaching job he has done, but I'm just not that impressed with Indiana State's talent. I think Jake Odum is the best PG in the Valley and that makes them a better team than they probably are. But I think the Redbirds' next two opponents are UNI (Saturday) and UNI (Friday at 8:30 in the Lou).
About as much as he wanted ISU to win the Valley tourney last year. Money, money, money.
You can't even begin to imagine. I remember couple years ago running back to press room after interviews. I almost ran over Tim Jankovich and yelled, "Could you please get an earlier game for me?" He laughed.
I heard that about James. I bet he returns Saturday. If ISU wins in St. Louis, I would say 13 or 14 seed. That's OK. There are going to be a lot of upset in the Big Dance this year. Top of field weakest I've ever seen.
Steve is a great guy and will be sorely missed. He said he will still be a regular at games. He's a Pantagraph alum, too.
I would say Gregg Marshall is the hands-down winner. Shocks lost four starters from title team and were picked fourth. He might not be well liked by Redbird fans (and others in Valley), but the guy is really a good coach.
Just the inconsistency of this team. You expect veteran teams to be more consistent, but the ups and downs with this squad, especially after pretty good nonconference season, really caught me off guard. I didn't expect that.
I would expect Rob to still be on the staff next year. He might even have a two-year deal. I think the clock has run out on Rob being a HC, unless it's at a lower DI or DII or DIII.
I would say Jackie is probably in the top 10 to 15. Too bad in his soph season they really didn't have a PG who could feed the post. They did last year and while not as good this season, hasn't been totally like it was two years ago. Plus, he's really a good kid and representative for ISU.
Not anybody on the current roster. I think it will be a juco or prep player or maybe even a senior transfer eligible immediately that they bring in. I just can't see Hill or Ekey filling that role.
Thanks for jumping in everyone. We will do again from Cedar Falls at 6:30 on saturday night. I tell you, that might be the coldest place I've even been on this planet. Always seems about 20 below when Redbirds are there. Hope different on Sat. Thanks again.
