Hello from the Ford Center in downtown Evansville where the Redbirds face the Evansville Purple Aces at 7:05. ISU needs a win to stay in third place in league, but Evansville has lost four straight and will be hungry. ISU has not played well here since this building opened two years ago. Won't be much of a crowd on a Wednesday night with the Aces struggling at 10-15. All ISU players in uniform. Ready for all the questions. Bring them on...
Officials for game tonight are Gerry Pollard (gulp), Bob Staffen and Jeff Campbell. Strange things always seem to happen when Pollard on the court, most of his doing.
Hey Houston... weather OK. Warmed up to 25 degrees today. Heat wave!!!! This crowd could be pathetic tonight. I'm saying under 2,500 although they will probably announce with tickets sold. You coming to Valley Tournament for old time's sake?
You are right. Loyola did a great job getting it in the middle and then going from there. I think it was more ISU was just a step slow at the start. Redbirds have done a good job covering the middle before, but Sunday it just didn't happen for whatever reason. But I do believe teams might have a better feel for it the second time around. Plus, let's face it, ISU doesn't have the length that Syracuse does in the 2-3 zone.
Have to stay in school two years. That would certainly help.
Zach has been baffling to say the least. I think his knee is bothering him the last couple weeks, some tendinitis, but you just have to battle through it. There is no time to sit out. I really thought he was going to average about 14-15 points a game. It hasn't happened. For the most part, he has pressed all season. I just hope this isn't another Justin Clark happening before our eyes.
Tickets sales down for MVC tourney, but expected with Creighton gone. WSU buying them up in bunches. Couple weeks ago ISU was second ... with something like 250 all-session passes. Hawkins and McIntosh are off limits to media this season. By all indications, they did well in school and should be suited up next season. It can't come soon enough.
Sweet 16 of NCAA tourney... Shoxs will run table in regular season and at MVC Tournament. Then the pressure will really ramp up, whether they want to admit it or not. They will win first two NCAA games then get beat.
I thought about that the other day. The starting lineup would probably be Threloff, Ekey, Beane, Johnny Hill and Nic. Zeisloft and Zeke would have been coming off bench. They also would have had a couple JC transfers I'm sure. Would have needed a guy like Darius Carter up front. That would have been a good team. Oh, well ...
WSU will be done a little, but still have back VanVleet, Baker, Cotton, Carter, so that's a pretty good start. I know Marshall also will have a couple quality JCs ready. ISU Blue will be down, but rest of league has to be better just because they're older.
Who exactly would be sitting in luxury suites? I don't see much of a need for that in Bloomington-Normal. They have added court seats for big donors. Right now, that's enough until the team starts getting better.
Bless you, Sister. I felt that took care of my Sunday obligation I failed to do that day. Thank you.
No, I don't think people really give a hoot either way about Tim Jankovich right now. They just want to see the team improve next season. We shall see. No one can forgive Jank for taking $300,000 a year pay raise. Who wouldn't do that?
I definitely think ISU needs to show it can compete for the title next season and Dan Muller is a smart guy. He knows that. I really would like to see them add a reliable outside shooter for next season. That is high on the priority list, along with another big. I thought Lofton would fill that bill. Not sure that's ever going to happen. Sometimes guys just never get comfortable aka Justin Clark.
That's a good question. I will try to have an answer by Saturday's chat. About only place in Valley that doesn't have them.
Actually, I have upgraded my travel tonight. Staying in Terre Haute. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's hard to tell. I do think this staff might be targeting higher rated players. But have they gotten them yet? Not really. I think Jankovich and crew went more for guys they thought the majors wouldn't want. All it takes is getting one or two difference makers. But have to get them first. I would hate to see a JC influx every year. Muller doesn't want that every season.
Time to go. You can follow my game updates on twitter at Pg_Benson. Will chat again at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday before I-74 battle with Bradley. Thanks for jumping on. Good questions tonight.
