Welcome from the Knapp Center in Des Moines as Illinois State gets ready to play Drake at 7 tonight. Game will be televised on Comcast with Kurt Pegler and Bob Morris doing the commentary. Give me you questions and I will try to answer.
Probably somewhere in the 3-4,000 range. The Bulldogs have lost four straight after a great 10-4 start, so that will hold the crowd back somewhat.
Usually the home team gets a 5-pt bump so I would guess that's the reason. Plus, ISU has lost its last 3 roadies. Drake has lot 4 in a row and seems due for a decent game. They've got some dangerous guards, but not much of an inside game. I expect ISU to play well tonight.
I would like to say Wed night, Houston, but I just don't see it happening. The Redbirds would probably have to shoot 55-60 percent from field and they haven't been above 50 all year. Let's face it, the last place Marshall wants to lose his first game this season is at Redbird Arena. I really hope there is a great crowd there, at least above 8K. The highest ranked opponent in building's history.
Great question, Kyle. I would say by the looks of the Illini at the moment the Redbirds would have a great shot at beating them. The 2-3 zone against that team would look pretty good. I would really like to see ISU play the Illini every three or four years. I will have to ask Muller how much interest he has in just going over there for a guarantee. I would think next year or the year after he will be very interested in that deal.
Bingo! Marshall really is an outstanding bb coach and gets his team playing to its potential. But, man, I really don't like coaches who try to put the spotlight on themselves.
I will check that out on Wed. I'm a week to week guy, especially during the season.
Haven't really caught a "buzz" yet. That usually happens the week of a game.
I'm not sure what John Groce's stance is on that. I do know Wichita is pushing Kansas hard for a game anywhere and the Jayhawks want no part of that. Illinois did play Bradley at home this season, so I would think Groce might be up for it.
I wouldn't say Bobby Hunter would step up because he's probably the most consistent Redbird game in and game out, but I think he has a 20-pt game just waiting to happen and could be tonight. But I would really like to see Reggie Lynch have a good one. His family has come down from Minnesota and that would be really special for him.
I have long ago quit trying to figure out the B-N sports crowd. Got a headache trying.
True about VanDeest, but he is still 270 pounds and takes up lot of space. They have a freshman, 6-11, 240-pound Jacob Enevold Jensen from Denmark who has been playing well. He's a good rebounder, which is ISU's weakness.
Anything possible but not thinking that way
I did a story on Aaron this week. ISU is not in the picture. The Redbirds are looking for size with the scholarship available.
A little bit behind the bench, but that's Reggie's family mostly. Actually, there are some donors directly behind the bench in red. Plus Bill and Lori Gaddis are here. Those two are great fans.
Everyone thinks attendance is just a problem at RBA, but really it's a national trend. I think part of the fact is there is so many games on TV and quality of games so good on high-def that most just want to sit home and not shell out the money (which is pretty cheap at RBA, to be honest)
Losing Marcus Marshall is a huge blow to Missouri State. Paul Lusk said it's like Indy State losing Jake Odum. The Bears are definitely in the hunt for Thursday play-in game in the Lou.
I might look that up, Houston. But I'm sort of addicted to making my own waffles at my hotel. I should buy one of those machines for my birthday gift to myself.
Funny you should ask that, Cadillac. The Des Moines reporter said it was a 50-50 split earlier this week when Drake went there. ISU definitely has more alums and fans in Chicago than Drake, so I would say more ISU red than Loyola maroon or whatever.
Calbert Cheaney had the job, but left in late August to join Jim Crews as assistant at St. Louis. Tom Crean must have been looking for just the right guy. He found him. Barry Hinson was the DOBO for four years at Kansas after being fired at Missouri State. Great for those schools getting an experienced guy for cheaper than a regular assistant.
Regular starters for ISU. Karl Madison of Springfield getting rare start for Drake as Giacoletti tries to shake it up a little in midst of four-game skid.
This was fun. Thanks for the good questions everywhere. We will do again at 6:30 Wed before big battle vs. Wichita State at RBA. Hope everyone can attend that game. If not, jump on the chat. Follow along tonight my take of game at Pg_Benson. Take care.
