Hello from the Knapp Center in Des Moines. This is a huge game for Illinois State if it wants to jump into the top six and avoid the "dreaded" play-in round at the Valley Tournament. Fire away with your questions....
Dana Ford won't be here tonight. The Redbirds' associate head coach is back in Bloomington-Normal with his wife as they await the imminent birth of their first child. Good luck to the Fords!
Above fifth? I guess there is a chance, but ISU probably needs to go 6-1 in the last seven games. That's a tall order. However, 5-2 would throw the Redbirds into the mix for the top six with a 9-9 finish. Let's face it, winning Saturday at Creighton is going to be very, very difficult. That would leave just one loss in the other six, including tonight.
take it easy, Jonah. No bombing on my watch. I don't think Bryant Allen is going to stop shooting. He's got a green light if he's open and for the most part, the shots he is missing are open. I agree, he does put them up pretty quickly sometimes.
I don't so think, George. Sorry
Zeisloft has returned to the rotation. The problem with both is defense. Zeisloft, if you remember, was burned badly by Drake at Redbird Arena and soon after didn't play. Muller has decided on a three-man rotation among the "bigs," which leaves Tree out of the mix.
Let's keep the comments to bball, OK?
Kindred is back in Bloomington-Normal, Jonah. Always pressure, Always.
There doesn't figure to be much of a crowd here tonight. Drake fans are as disappointed with their team as Redbird fans are.
A successful season is still winning the Valley tourney and going to the NCAA. Anything else doesn't make this a successful season. It's that simple.
I haven't seen the list, Cadillac Jack. But the kicker/punter from Rockford Boylan is the son of a guy I grew up with in Dwight, Ed Slattery. Ed's a golf pro in Rockford.
Indiana State leads Creighton, 19-18. I'm not sure which is better for the Valley, Creighton winning out or Indiana State kind of hanging around the top. Creighton looks like an NCAA lock. Right now, Wichita is on the bubble and needs to right the ship, especially after last night's horrific loss in Carbondale.
I'm not sure where Buckeye Girl is. She's been pretty quiet the last couple chats. Buckeye Girl, you there?
Haha... none I can share on this forum.
For the Redbirds' case, you are probably correct. I was thinking for the league as a whole and getting at least 2 teams in the Dance. If Creightons wins out and then wins the tourney, it could be a one-bid year. Don't think Doug Elgin hasn't thought of that yet.
If you mean players transferring out, I'm thinking it could be over that. It will be very interesting to see who stays if they know there is no playing time in their future. Dan Muller is a straight shooter and he will tell the players what their future holds at ISU. I don't think he would run players off if they wanted to stay, but who wants to stay if they know they aren't going to play.
Not really. Most people seem to think Creighton is going to be joining the Catholic defectors from the Big East. You would have to think the Valley would try to get St. Louis again, but the Bills might be happy in the A-10 which is suddenly very, very good. Probably this spring we will hear much more.
Wow, decent officiating crew of Verne Harris, Paul Drury and Rick Randall.
Greg Lansing could be Coach of Year in Valley. Or Geno Ford. How the heck is Bradley tied for fourth?
Agree, plus Pickett has helped their inside game. It was awful last year. Mediocre is better than awful. I know Bradley has a couple transfers sitting out, so they will be interesting to watch next season.
Fighting a bad cold here tonight. I'll try not to breathe on the players in postgame interviews.
You mean Indy state up 11
I vote on the Associated Press rankings this year. It's getting hard to know what teams to rank, especially after No. 15, because everyone keeps losing. Should be a great NCAA tourney. Could be big year for teams outside the power six conferences.
Actually, the Des Moines reporter was saying in the Creighton game here two players came right at him and Ed Hightower was rammed into the press table and the reporter's soda can went all over the court. It's tough here on press row!
I'm not sure, Cadillac Jack. Muller said they will really work on the schedule when season over. I was hoping they went to UIC or Loyola in BB. Utah State? Ughhhh. Long travel for team in middle of conference season. Not an easy place to get to.
Gonna be a real small crowd here at Knapp Center. Maybe 3,000.
That's for all who participating. We're going to have to put out an all-points bulletin on Buckeye Girl. Game at 7:05, Jonah. Will do again Saturday at 8:30. Bye.
